Women Build is now Everyone Build

Build. Stay Home. Repeat. | San Diego Habitat for Humanity’s Popular Fundraising event goes virtual

SAN DIEGO, CA – Every spring, San Diego Habitat for Humanity hosts Women Build — a popular and unique fundraiser that empowers women (and men!) to engage on construction sites in support of Habitat’s critical mission of building and repairing homes for San Diegans in need of improved housing. Since we cannot come together this year in person, the rules are being rewritten. Introducing Everyone Build!

Everyone Build encourages people to stay home and build creative structures with materials they already have on hand. Instead of building homes on a traditional Habitat job site, living rooms or kitchens become the job site as we come together in the spirit of community and building hope at home.

Weekly challenges will be announced every Wednesday in April, beginning today, April 8, 2020. All challenges are family/kid-friendly, and this week, participants will be building forts! It is a chance to get innovative, spend some creative time together, and learn about the importance of housing in our community and around the world. The public will have the chance to vote for their favorite designs on Habitat’s Facebook page @SanDiegoHabitat.

As we shelter in place, we know that many are struggling without access to a safe, stable home. There will be more need for affordable housing in San Diego than ever before, and Habitat will keep building and repairing homes. As part of Everyone Build, a small group of individuals has come together with a giving challenge to encourage others to contribute if they can at this time. All dollars raised during the virtual event will be matched — dollar for dollar — up to $20,000.

Cox Communications, a long-time Habitat supporter, has signed on as presenting sponsor for Everyone Build. Cox began its partnership with San Diego Habitat in 2012 and has since contributed 1,625 volunteer hours on 22 Habitat homes and over $320,000 in financial support. In these unprecedented times, when connectivity is more important than ever before, Habitat is honored to partner with Cox to continue building brighter futures together in our community. About San Diego Habitat for Humanity

People in our community partner with San Diego Habitat for Humanity to build or improve a place they can call home. Habitat homeowners build their homes alongside volunteers and pay an affordable mortgage. With our help, Habitat homeowners achieve the strength, stability, and independence they need to build a better life for themselves and their families.

Habitat for Humanity exists through volunteer labor and contributions of money, land and materials, including purchases and donations to the ReStore, Habitat’s discount home improvement retail center, which is open online during COVID-19 related closures of brick and mortar locations.
