Ryan, a single 33 year-old man, has lived independently for the past 9 years. He has overcome many obstacles and has not let his disability interfere with living life to the fullest. He is actively involved in his community and enjoys sailing, golf, and coaching softball. He has worked for Home Depot for the past 11 years.
He lives in a small studio apartment in an older apartment complex in Carlsbad. The only ventilation is the bathroom window and one sliding glass door, which makes it very hot in the summer and cold in the winter. His sliding glass door is almost inoperable and maintenance has not addressed this issue. The toilet continually clogs and he regularly has to call maintenance. The unit has also had termite issues.
Ryan is excited about the opportunity to complete his sweat equity requirement. He only lives a few blocks from the build site and is planning to build after work and on the weekends. Owning a home would be a major accomplishment for Ryan. He is looking forward to having his parents over for Thanksgiving and Christmas.
