February has been a busy month for advocacy here at Habitat. We gathered with our Habitat colleagues (virtually, of course) for lobby days in Sacramento and Washington D.C. with the goal of furthering policies and systems that create better and more equal access to homeownership.
At the annual Habitat on the Hill event in D.C., we met with our San Diego delegation on Habitat’s National Advocacy Agenda that furthers many of the core themes from our Cost of Home campaign, which aims to create policies that will aid 10 million Americans in achieving their most basic need — a safe, stable home they can afford. Highlights of the federal policy agenda include: lowering the down payment barrier to ensure everyone has a fair chance at homeownership; sparking economic recovery through housing investments that enable everyone to prosper; and creating federal incentives for states and local governments to improve zoning. In Sacramento, we spent time with our State Assemblymembers and Senators in support of Habitat for Humanity California’s policy agenda, which is aggressively and unapologetically focused on the furtherance of homeownership and racial equity in housing in the Golden State.
