Anyone can make a planned gift, leave a legacy, and provide enduring support to Habitat’s work.

A planned gift is a philanthropic gift from your will, living trust, retirement plan, or other estate assets. A legacy gift can allow you to maintain assets during your lifetime and often provide tax advantages for you and your loved ones — some options can provide you with immediate income.

Bequests

With a simple statement in your will or trust, you can make a gift to ensure that San Diego Habitat can continue to partner with families on affordable homeownership solutions.

  • Residual bequest
    A percentage of the remainder of your estate after other specific legacies have been fulfilled.

    After taking care of all expenses, debts and other provisions, I give, devise, and bequeath ___ percent of the rest and residue [or $___ if a specific amount] to San Diego Habitat for Humanity [Tax ID# 33-0259190] currently with administrative offices at 8128 Mercury Court, San Diego, CA 92111.

  • Specific bequest
    A specific dollar amount, stated fraction of your estate, or specified gift-in-kind such as collections, art, books, jewelry, etc.

    I, [name], of [city, state, ZIP], give, devise and bequeath to San Diego Habitat for Humanity [written amount or percentage of the estate or description of property] for its unrestricted use and purpose.

  • Contingent bequest
    A gift that is originally intended for other beneficiaries but, in the event of their prior passing, is redirected as a charitable donation.

    If any of the beneficiaries named in this will or trust should die before becoming entitled to receive their distributive share of my estate, I direct my trustee to pay or transfer the share to which such beneficiary would otherwise be entitled, to San Diego Habitat for Humanity for unrestricted use to advance their mission of building homes, community, and hope.
