San Diego Habitat doesn’t just strengthen communities through the building of new, affordable homes — we also partner with existing homeowners to preserve and support their homeownership journey with an array of housing solutions. And our Housing and Community Services team has been busy doing just that!
More than 40 individuals, including one future Habitat homebuyer, joined us at Francesca’s home in southeastern San Diego to complete many exterior preservation improvements. Contributing over 240 hours across four days, volunteers:
- removed an existing chain-link fence.
- built 150 feet of good neighbor design picket fence, creating an identical look on both sides.
- repaired two gates.
- built two garden boxes.
Our Home Preservation program is offered countywide, preserving older homes for safer, easier maintenance. This critical work aims to give homeowners a renewed sense of pride and the ability to enjoy their homes in dignity and safety for years to come.
