Representatives from Habitat affiliates across California gathered in Sacramento recently to meet with State Assemblymembers and Senators during Habitat for Humanity California’s annual Advocacy Day. San Diego affiliate CEO, Kwofi Reed, and staff met with elected officials from San Diego to ask them to support asking Governor Gavin Newsom to reinstate $100M he allocated last year to the CalHome program, California’s ONLY source of government funding for the production of homeownership units.
Habitat affiliates in California alone applied for nearly $90M under the current funding opportunity. The CalHome program is 100% oversubscribed, which shows a critical need for the reinstatement of funds.
