MEDIA RELEASE
Local Chefs and Restaurants Help Make Homeownership a Reality
Proceeds from Taste of Home event will build Habitat for Humanity homes in Escondido
ESCONDIDO, CA – Many people in our community are eager to help San Diego Habitat for Humanity build more affordable ownership housing in our region. Some swing a hammer on a build site, some advocate for changes in government policy that create more homeownership opportunities, and some prefer to indulge in treats provided by amazing local chefs, brewers, vintners, and bakers!
Comfort food, secret family recipes, and cherished childhood flavors can remind us of our own homes and can help us welcome others into them. To celebrate the special place cuisine has in our homes, San Diego Habitat for Humanity is hosting its inaugural “Taste of Home” fundraising event on Sunday, April 16, 2023 at 5:30pm. Attendees at this event – sponsored in part by Appfolio – will sip and savor food and drink from chefs and restaurants around the county as they share favorite dishes that remind them of home. Participants currently include:
The Grill at the Lakehouse Hotel and Resort
Pure Taco
The Wise Ox
Bagby
Indulge at Embassy Suites in La Jolla
Burger Bench
San Diego Catering Company
Huckleberry’s
Pizza 22
Dulzura Vineyard and Winery
Holiday Wine Cellar
Modern Times Beer
Pizza Port Brewing
There are still opportunities for local businesses to showcase their own tastes of home, and supporting affordable homeownership in San Diego County and sharing delectable bites of food that capture what home truly means.
Tickets are $100 and all proceeds support Habitat’s newest 10-home community in El Norte Parkway in Escondido that will be offered for purchase by qualified buyers. Applicants who are selected will be invited to partner with Habitat to help build and buy their own home, which will be sold to them at an affordable price not greater than 30% of the buyer’s household income. The homes being offered for sale are 1,250 square foot duplex-style homes with three bedrooms, two and a half baths, and attached garages.
Purchase tickets or become a participant here – https://go.sandiegohabitat.org/tasteofhome.
