Juan and Anabel and their three children – Daniel (15), Eric (13) and Anabel (12) have lived in a small three-bedroom apartment for the past year. Their apartment is in a dangerous part of San Diego. Last week there was a murder near their home. Their children are not allowed to play outside. The family keeps their children busy by involving them in sports and encouraging them to get good grades.
Their apartment has many issues. There is mold in the walls and this aggravates two of the children’s asthma. Because the apartment is so poorly insulated, the family is extremely cold during the winter and hot during the summer. Juan and Anabel long for their children to grow up in a safe community.
The family is excited about owning their own home.
