Habitat for Humanity California — and the 40 Habitat affiliates it represents — has been working hard in Sacramento all year to get policies put in place that help provide more homeownership opportunities to families across the state. With your help, we achieved great success recently when Governor Gavin Newsom signed 18 bills into law that will improve the affordable housing landscape in California.
Included in this housing package is Habitat-sponsored AB 587 (Friedman), which will allow ADU’s to be sold as separate units. Other bills address surplus land for affordable housing, reducing barriers to building, property tax exemptions, transparency and stability in building requirements, and increased access to infill parcels. Thank you for your participation all year in our advocacy efforts, especially in the past couple of weeks in this final push. Your voices made all the difference!
