San Diego Habitat’s Home Preservation team has been hard at work making safer, healthier spaces for a family in El Cajon. With the help of six corporate partner volunteer groups, and 70 individual volunteers contributing 335 total volunteer hours, we recently completed some much needed preservation repairs at the home of Mucyo and Karina.
The entire exterior of the home was painted, a total of four tons of construction debris and yard waste was removed from the property, and a 1,200 square-foot drought-tolerant custom hardscape was installed in the front yard.
Habitat for Humanity is known for its construction of new houses for affordable ownership, but we also find it important to help our neighbors create safer, healthier homes. We often see existing homeowners struggle to maintain their properties due to age or financial constraints. The goal of these preservation and repair projects is to protect the home and to allow more manageable and affordable maintenance for the owners as they remain in the homes they have already built so many memories in.
